A heavy sense of grief has settled over the Ayawaso East constituency as residents, political figures, and family members gather on Monday, January 5, to pay their final respects to their late Member of Parliament, Naser Toure Mahama.
The esteemed legislator passed away on Sunday, January 4, at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital following a brief illness, leaving a profound void in the community he faithfully represented.
In line with Islamic customs, burial arrangements were expedited, taking place less than a day after his passing. The early rites have drawn thousands of mourners to the bustling communities of Nima and Kanda, reflecting the deep connection he maintained with his constituents.
Member of Parliament for Ayawaso North, Yussif Jajah, revealed that President John Dramani Mahama personally intervened to ensure that all mortuary procedures were completed swiftly. “The body has been returned home,” Mr. Jajah confirmed Sunday evening, affirming that the family now has custody of the late MP’s remains for the final ceremonies.
Today’s funeral schedule has been carefully organised to honour Naser Toure Mahama’s lasting impact on his community:

10:00 AM – Janazah Prayers: The central spiritual service will be held at the Ayawaso East Constituency Office along Kanda Highway.

Officiating Clergy: The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, will lead the prayers, a mark of the late MP’s respected stature.

Interment: Following the prayers, a procession will accompany the remains to Madina Cemetery for final burial.
