Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has called on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to use its upcoming flagbearer election to strengthen the party rather than fuel internal divisions.

In a Christmas message to party supporters, Afenyo-Markin emphasized the importance of upholding party traditions and unity, warning that internal conflicts could weaken the NPP’s prospects ahead of the 2028 general election.

“As we prepare for our upcoming flagbearer election, let us treat one another and our traditions as sacred,” he said. “Our credibility and moral authority must be preserved if we are to reclaim power in 2028.”

He expressed confidence that the party could recover from its 2024 election defeat, highlighting that President John Dramani Mahama’s first year in office offers an opportunity for the opposition to rebuild nationwide support.

The NPP is set to elect its next flagbearer on 31 January, a contest that has already sparked competition among aspiring candidates. Party leaders have stressed that a disciplined and smooth election is crucial for presenting a united front to Ghanaians.

“With discipline, respect, and a shared vision, we can turn the challenges of today into the victories of tomorrow,” Afenyo-Markin said, projecting optimism for the party’s future and its chances in 2028.
