The Ashanti Regional Council of Elders of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has commended the Minority Caucus in Parliament for its steadfastness, commitment, and principled conduct amid a challenging and often hostile parliamentary environment.
In a press statement issued on Thursday, December 25, the Council lauded the caucus for demonstrating “unmatched commitment, resilience and sterling qualities” throughout the year’s parliamentary debates.
The statement noted that despite operating with a numerical disadvantage of 87 members against a majority of 189, the Minority Caucus has maintained a strong, value-driven presence.
“This year, despite the relentless tactics of bullying, frustration and intimidation by the majority, you have displayed unmatched commitment and sterling qualities in debates that reflect the very soul of our tradition,” the statement read.
The Elders expressed admiration for the caucus’s dedication to Ghana’s historic Danquah-Busia-Dombo political tradition, praising them as “guardians of liberty and constitutional order.”
The statement further highlighted that the caucus has consistently reinforced the principle that democracy thrives only when its foundations are defended with courage, clarity, and respect for the Constitution.
In addition, the Council commended the caucus’s human-centred leadership approach, noting that it prioritises service, the dignity of citizens, and national welfare, while fostering unity and cooperation in line with the vision of S.D. Dombo.
