Police have intensified a manhunt for a 60-year-old man accused of killing his wife and allegedly keeping her body locked inside their home for several weeks, in a case that has shocked residents of the area.

The incident occurred at Gyametanhunu, near Hiayeya, in the Amansie Central District of the Ashanti Region. The grim discovery was reportedly made after neighbors raised concerns over the woman’s prolonged absence and a persistent foul smell emanating from the couple’s residence.

According to preliminary police accounts, the suspect is believed to have fled the community shortly before the matter was formally reported to authorities. Law enforcement officers who later gained access to the house found the woman deceased, prompting the immediate launch of investigations.

The body has since been retrieved and conveyed to a medical facility for preservation and further examination, as police work to determine the exact cause of death and the timeline of events leading to the incident.

Community members have expressed shock and fear, describing the couple as relatively quiet and reserved. Some residents say they initially suspected the woman had traveled, which delayed early detection of the alleged crime.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has assured the public that every effort is being made to locate and arrest the suspect, urging anyone with credible information on his whereabouts to assist the police.

Investigations are ongoing, and authorities say more details will be made public as the case develops.
