A six-year-old boy, Godfred Aboagye, tragically lost his life after drowning in an open water storage tank at Kasoa in the Central Region.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed that the boy was discovered lifeless at House Number CB 180 on Monday evening. Rescue teams were dispatched within 10 minutes of an emergency call at 5:03 pm, recovering the child by 5:28 pm. His body was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation.
Preliminary reports indicate that Godfred had been playing with a ball, which fell into the uncovered tank. In an attempt to retrieve it, he climbed into the tank and drowned.
Abdul Wasiu Hudu, Central Regional Public Relations Officer for the GNFS, urged parents, guardians, and property owners to secure all water tanks, wells, and pits, particularly in homes with children.
“This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by uncovered water storage facilities,” he said. “We also urge the public to report emergencies immediately via 112 or our hotlines for rapid response.”
