The Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) has firmly rejected reports suggesting that it had any form of interaction with a well-known cybercrime suspect popularly referred to as Abu Trica, describing the claims as inaccurate and deceptive.

In an official release dated Tuesday, December 16, EOCO stated unequivocally that it had no engagement, correspondence, or dealings whatsoever with the suspect prior to his arrest. The individual, identified as Frederick Kumi, who also uses the alias Emmanuel Kojo Baah Obeng, was apprehended following a coordinated law enforcement operation.

The Office’s response comes amid growing media speculation alleging that investigators had established contact with the suspect several weeks before he was taken into custody. EOCO, however, insisted that these assertions are entirely unfounded.

Abu Trica was arrested as part of a joint operation involving EOCO and other security agencies in connection with an alleged romance fraud scheme valued at approximately eight million dollars.

Addressing the allegations directly, EOCO stressed that at no point did its officials communicate with the suspect ahead of the arrest, contrary to what has been circulating in the public domain.

The Office reiterated its unwavering dedication to combating economic and organised crime, emphasising that it operates within strict professional and legal frameworks to protect the integrity of its investigations.

EOCO also appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by providing credible information that could aid in the detection and prevention of criminal activities.

The statement was endorsed by the Head of Public Affairs, acting on behalf of the Executive Director of EOCO.
