A fire outbreak has swept through several shipping containers at the Techiman Market, triggering an emergency response from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

According to the GNFS, the Techiman Fire Station received an emergency alert about the incident, prompting the immediate deployment of a response team to the affected area. The crew, led by Assistant Officer Oppong Kyekyeku, rushed to the scene within minutes of receiving the distress call.

Upon arrival, firefighters encountered multiple containers already engulfed in flames in the densely populated market environment, raising concerns about the potential spread of the fire to nearby structures and trading areas.

The fire crew swiftly initiated containment measures, directing water jets at adjoining containers and surrounding buildings to create a protective barrier and stop the blaze from advancing into other parts of the market. Their rapid and coordinated response helped to prevent extensive damage.

After sustained firefighting efforts, the team successfully brought the fire under control and completely extinguished the flames, averting what could have developed into a major market disaster.

No casualties or injuries were recorded as a result of the incident. However, the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are expected to be conducted to determine the source of the outbreak.

The GNFS has commended the prompt response of its personnel and continues to urge market operators and traders to observe fire safety measures to reduce the risk of future incidents.
