Four individuals have been taken into police custody following the fatal shooting of a 32-year-old man during a failed abduction attempt at Jilima, a remote settlement in Garin Kuuka near Chereponi in the North East Region.
Confirming the arrests, Saboba District Police Commander, ASP Victor Koafo, said the suspects are currently being held and will be presented for identification and screening before the Divisional Commander on Thursday.
“I can confirm that four suspects have been arrested, and arrangements are being made to parade them before my Divisional Commander,” he stated.
The incident reportedly took place on Tuesday night when two armed men stormed the victim’s home in an apparent attempt to kidnap him. The deceased, identified only as Hashim, was said to be a successful young Fulani trader.
According to family members, Hashim resisted the attackers, which led to a violent struggle. In the course of the confrontation, one of the assailants allegedly opened fire, killing him instantly. The attackers then fled the scene.
Officers from the Saboba District Police Command later visited the area to evaluate the situation and commence investigations.
Police say subsequent intelligence-driven operations resulted in the arrest of four persons believed to be linked to the killing.
The incident has heightened anxiety among residents in nearby communities, as fears over kidnapping and armed criminal activity have grown in recent months.
