Two individuals have sustained gunshot wounds after armed attackers reportedly fired on a commercial bus en route from Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region to Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Region.
The shooting is said to have taken place close to the Walewale township on Tuesday, December 16, triggering panic among passengers and residents in the area.
Those injured in the attack include the driver of the bus and one passenger. Both victims were rushed to the Walewale Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.
The vehicle involved, a passenger bus operated by Great Imperial Express with registration number GY 3199-21, is believed to have been deliberately attacked, possibly in connection with existing tensions within the locality.
The Ghana Police Service has acknowledged the incident and confirmed that investigations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack. Officers are also working to determine the motive behind the shooting and to track down the assailants responsible.
Security presence in the area has since been heightened as authorities continue efforts to ensure the safety of commuters and restore calm along the affected route.
