Former Dome-Kwabenya MP Sarah Adwoa Safo has firmly aligned herself with Vice-President Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, describing him as the foundation of her political future as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) approaches a pivotal leadership transition.
Speaking to party delegates and supporters, she called for unity, self-reflection, and strategic direction within the party, declaring that “this is Bawumia’s moment.”
She noted that every party member has the right to pursue political ambition. “I am a politician, and Honourable Kennedy Agyapong is also a politician. Just as he has his own views and aspirations, I also have mine, and I am charting my own political path,” she said.
While acknowledging that differing opinions are normal in politics, she urged that leadership choices be guided by the party’s long-term interests rather than personal feelings.
Adwoa Safo dismissed claims that her support for Dr Bawumia stems from any personal issues with Kennedy Agyapong. “I do not hate Honourable Kennedy Agyapong,” she stressed. “We share two wonderful children—a boy and a girl—so there is no hatred.” She added, however, that the NPP’s internal decisions should not be reduced to family matters.
Reflecting on the party’s recent electoral loss, she encouraged the NPP to learn from its setbacks. “We must draw lessons from our defeat, which has placed us in opposition,” she said.
She further explained that her political future would be uncertain under Agyapong’s leadership. “Considering the work I have done and how I have served this party and country, it would be nearly impossible for someone I share two children with to appoint me as a minister. It would cause chaos. The Kennedy Agyapong I know would never do that. That is why my political future is at risk. My future rests with Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia,” she stated.
