NPP General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua has reaffirmed the party’s firm decision to take part in the anticipated re-run of the Kpandai parliamentary election. His statement comes amid heightened public debate following a letter from the Parliamentary Service to the Electoral Commission declaring the seat vacant ,a move that has stirred legal and political controversy over whether a by-election should proceed and under which conditions.
Speaking in an interview, Mr. Kodua confirmed that the party has already resolved to participate once the Electoral Commission sets a date. He emphasised that the NPP’s readiness is not tied to the eventual outcome of the ongoing court case, stressing that the party will not withdraw or allow the contest to proceed without its involvement. NPP’s determination to contest was, in his view, non-negotiable.
He also addressed criticism surrounding Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s concession in the 2024 general election. According to Mr. Kodua, the decision was not made independently by the former vice president but was the result of broad consultations within the party. He explained that the concession was agreed upon to help maintain national calm and protect the country’s stability, and therefore should not be attributed to Dr. Bawumia alone.
The Kpandai seat remains at the centre of legal and political scrutiny, with the Electoral Commission yet to release a clear timetable for the re-run.
With this, the NPP’s latest statements signal a strong readiness to return to the ballot once the process is formally initiated
