The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr. Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has reaffirmed that Sheikh Ali Muniru is the duly appointed Volta Regional Chief Imam, noting that his selection followed a careful, consultative process undertaken to ensure unity and proper leadership within the regional Muslim community.

He further indicated that Sheikh Alfa Anas has been formally named as Deputy Volta Regional Chief Imam, and is expected to work collaboratively with Sheikh Muniru in advancing the welfare and religious affairs of Muslims in the region.

According to a statement issued on behalf of the National Chief Imam and signed by his Personal Assistant, Dr. Abubakar Mohammed Marzuq Azindoo, the appointment of Sheikh Muniru was the outcome of extensive dialogue and mediation among key stakeholders before the final decision was reached.

Sheikh Sharubutu expressed concern over the reported shooting incident at the Ho Central Mosque in December, 2025, which was linked to the ongoing leadership dispute, describing the development as regrettable and unnecessary.

The statement explained that the violence stemmed from tensions surrounding the contest for the Volta Regional Imamship between Sheikh Muniru and Sheikh Anas, but emphasised that the matter had already been concluded, with Sheikh Muniru recognised as the legitimate Regional Imam and Sheikh Anas confirmed as his deputy.

It added that the appointment was neither imposed nor unilateral, but rather the result of structured consultation and reconciliation efforts, and questioned why a matter that had been resolved through mediation continued to generate conflict and unrest.
