In a decisive enforcement move tied to the Bawku peace process, the Ghana Armed Forces have escorted Alhaji Seidu Abagre out of Bawku, acting on key recommendations contained in the mediation report led by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, on the protracted chieftaincy conflict.

The extraction was carried out on December 24, 2025, as part of the government’s broader effort to operationalise the findings of the mediation report submitted to President John Dramani Mahama earlier this month.

According to an Interior Ministry statement issued on Christmas Eve by Minister Muntanka Mohammed-Mubarak, Alhaji Abagre is safe and currently in the care of national security authorities.

The action followed the formal presentation of the Asantehene’s report at the Jubilee House on December 16, 2025. The document advised that Alhaji Abagre be recalled to Nalerigu by the Nayiri to assume a different traditional role  or alternatively, remain in Bawku strictly as a private resident, without asserting any claim to the title of Bawku Naba.

The mediation further affirmed Zugraan Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II the Kusasi-enskinned Bawku Naaba as the constitutionally recognised traditional ruler of the area, consistent with the 1992 Constitution.
