Fire officers from the Sekondi Metro Fire Station of the Ghana National Fire Service have successfully controlled a large commercial fire at Tadisco Down in Takoradi, preventing what could have been widespread destruction.
The blaze started in an area made up mostly of container shops. Although the responding fire truck developed a mechanical problem on the way, the crew still managed to reach the scene and begin work immediately.
By the time they arrived, the flames had moved from the first affected container to several others, including a cold store, provision shops and a sewing workshop.
The team acted swiftly and used tactical firefighting methods to stop the fire from spreading further, containing it to ten containers and protecting nearby structures.
The incident was brought under control within a short time and was completely put out shortly after midnight. No casualties were recorded.
Fire officers were also able to save six other containers and a chop bar, significantly reducing the overall impact of the incident.
