Residents in Ashaiman are experiencing difficulties getting around the municipality during the Christmas period due to a shortage of commercial vehicles.
Some motorcycle operators, commonly called okada riders, explained that the highest demand for their services normally occurs on December 31, rather than earlier in the month.
Other drivers, however, said business has improved this season. Some noted that passenger traffic has been strong since the start of December.
Observers say the situation reflects changing travel trends during the holidays, as several drivers from Ashaiman have shifted to longer-distance routes — including Accra–Ho — to benefit from higher fares. This has left many local passengers with fewer transport options and increased difficulty securing rides.
