The Upper West Regional Police Command has confirmed the death of two persons and the arrest of two suspects following a violent clash among members of a family over a disputed parcel of land in the region.
Confirming the incident, the Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, described the development as “very unfortunate,” noting that the confrontation escalated rapidly before police arrived at the scene.
According to him, the Police Quick Response Team (QRT) was immediately dispatched after the disturbance was reported, but the situation had already deteriorated by the time officers reached the area.
“On arrival, we discovered that the clash had gone too far, resulting in the death of one person right on the spot,” DCOP Yiribaare said.
He disclosed that another victim, who was found unconscious, was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment but was later pronounced dead, bringing the total number of fatalities to two.
Police have since launched a full-scale investigation into the incident, with strong cooperation from residents.
“We have processed the crime scene, and the management team covered and processed every particle that mattered in the issue,” the Regional Commander added.
As part of the ongoing investigation, two suspects have been arrested. One of them is currently on admission under police guard, while the other was picked up in the early hours of Tuesday and remains in custody.
“So far, one person is on admission but under police guard as a suspect. We have one other individual who was also arrested in the later part of the dawn and is also in detention,” DCOP Yiribaare confirmed.
He assured the public that the police are determined to ensure that justice is served and the full facts of the incident are uncovered.
Beyond the investigation, DCOP Yiribaare appealed to the affected family and the general public to resolve disputes through lawful and peaceful channels, rather than resorting to violence.
“In matters like this, we should try to use peaceful means rather than violence so we continue to preserve the peace and stability of the region,” he advised.
He further noted that the temporarily closed road in the affected area will be reopened once all outstanding security and investigative processes are completed.
