The Ghana Police Service has taken two individuals into custody after a disturbing video showing the assault of a minor surfaced online, sparking public outrage in Agona Jamasi, located in the Ashanti Region.
The arrests were executed by the Special Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team under the Office of the Inspector-General of Police, following rapid investigations that traced the incident to the community where the abuse occurred.
Initial police action led to the arrest of Grace Mensah at Agona Jamasi. Subsequent intelligence-led operations resulted in the apprehension of Godfred Osei Akoto, the individual seen in the viral footage physically attacking the young girl.
According to preliminary findings, the victim, an 11-year-old girl, reportedly left her home on December 6, 2025, and failed to return, prompting concern among relatives.
Police indicated that Osei Akoto alleged he had been granted permission by the child’s grandmother to discipline her, a claim now forming part of ongoing investigations.
The child has since been removed from harm and placed in safety. Both suspects have been transferred to the Mampong Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) to assist with further inquiries and possible prosecution.
The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to protecting children and ensuring that all acts of abuse are thoroughly investigated and dealt with in accordance with the law.
