The Ghana Police Service has revealed that a woman at the center of a viral alleged-kidnapping claim has blocked investigators, hindering ongoing efforts to verify the authenticity of her story.

According to a press release issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the woman identified in the viral video as Arianna Naomi Mackey, an American citizen claimed she was kidnapped and robbed in Accra by masked men she alleged were police officers on snap-check duty.

The CID immediately launched a full investigation to establish the facts behind the disturbing allegations, which had gained significant public attention online.

Preliminary investigations established that the video was recorded at a hotel in Accra, where Ms. Mackey and two companions were lodging. Police checks confirmed the group checked out of the hotel on December 5, 2025, and further checks at Kotoka International Airport showed she departed Ghana the same day.

When investigators reached out to her for assistance, she stated she was already out of the country and could not provide the names of the alleged officers or the vehicle number plate. The police then requested the contact details of her friend who was reportedly with her during the incident; however, Ms. Mackey said her companion did not wish to participate in the investigation.

The situation escalated when Ms. Mackey deleted the viral video from her social media page and subsequently stopped responding to WhatsApp calls and messages from CID officers. Investigators report that she eventually blocked the police team entirely, making it difficult for authorities to progress with the case.

The Ghana Police Service says efforts are now underway to engage her through diplomatic channels and reiterated that such allegations are treated with utmost seriousness.

The Service also emphasized its commitment to uncovering the truth and ensuring that public confidence in law enforcement remains intact.
