The Ghana Drunkards Association has announced its support for the funeral of the late highlife legend Daddy Lumba, contributing an amount of GH¢10,000 and five drums of alcohol toward the burial arrangements.
During the donation at his funeral, the association said the gesture was to honor the immense role Daddy Lumba played in Ghana’s music industry and nightlife culture, describing him as an icon whose music accompanied social gatherings, celebrations and moments of relaxation for decades.
According to the association’s leadership, Daddy Lumba’s songs resonated deeply with their members, as his music often provided comfort, joy and companionship during leisure moments. They noted that beyond entertainment, the late musician’s work created a shared cultural space that brought people together across social classes.
The donation, they explained, was a symbolic way of showing gratitude and ensuring that his final farewell reflects the joy and impact he brought into the lives of many Ghanaians.
The announcement has since generated widespread reactions on social media, with many Ghanaians expressing mixed feelings ranging from amusement to appreciation of the gesture.
While some questioned the relevance of the association’s involvement, others praised the group for acknowledging Daddy Lumba’s influence in their own unique way.
