Kwame Asare Obeng, widely known as A Plus and the Member of Parliament for Gomoa Central, has lauded Speaker Alban Bagbin, describing him as a highly capable and prudent leader who has successfully steered Parliament through some of its most challenging periods.
In an exclusive interview on the AM Show, the outspoken legislator emphasized Bagbin’s management of the 8th Parliament, particularly when both the ruling and opposition sides held 137 seats each, highlighting it as a display of exceptional political acumen.
“He is an extraordinary individual,” A Plus stated. “To manage the eighth Parliament under a 137–137 split and maintain stability for four consecutive years requires skill, intelligence, and remarkable wisdom.”
A Plus observed that in many legislatures worldwide, similar evenly divided assemblies often struggle to function or even collapse under pressure. Yet, Ghana’s Parliament remained stable and effective under Speaker Bagbin’s guidance. He suggested that this achievement should shape how current MPs interact with and respect the Speaker’s role.
“Considering the work he has done for the Parliament of Ghana, I would not want to be someone making his responsibilities harder,” he added.
Addressing concerns that recent frictions in the House could tarnish Bagbin’s reputation, A Plus dismissed such worries, explaining that it is natural for a small minority to dissent even when the majority endorses leadership decisions.
“It’s completely normal. Not everyone will always appreciate your efforts. Once the majority supports what you are doing, that is what truly matters,” he remarked.
