- The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has announced heightened surveillance and enforcement operations at nightclubs, entertainment venues, pubs, and public events across the country as part of measures to curb drug-related activities during the festive season.
- In a statement, the Commission said the move is aimed at combating drug abuse, trafficking, and the circulation of illicit substances, which typically surge during periods of increased social gatherings.
- According to NACOC, the festive season presents elevated risks of narcotic use, prompting the need for enhanced monitoring and enforcement to protect public health, safety, and national security.
- The operations will be conducted in collaboration with other law enforcement and regulatory agencies, focusing on detecting and preventing the sale and consumption of illegal drugs, enforcing compliance with national narcotics laws, and sensitising patrons and venue operators on the dangers associated with drug abuse.
- NACOC has called on venue owners, managers, and event organisers to cooperate fully with authorised officers and take proactive steps to ensure their premises remain drug-free.
- The Commission also urged the general public to stay alert and report any suspicious drug-related activities to the appropriate authorities.
- Speaking on the initiative, PNCO Francis Opoku Amoah, Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations at NACOC, assured the public that all operations would be carried out professionally and with full respect for human rights, while maintaining a zero-tolerance stance on narcotics offences.
- NACOC emphasised that collective efforts by law enforcement, venue operators, and citizens are key to guaranteeing a safe, healthy, and enjoyable festive season for all.
