The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested two British nationals at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in separate but related operations after intercepting a large quantity of suspected illicit drugs concealed in their luggage.
The suspects arrived in Ghana on an Emirates Airlines flight from Thailand when NACOC operatives, acting on intelligence, selected them for detailed inspection.
A comprehensive search of their baggage led to the discovery of 90 vacuum-sealed slabs of suspected cannabis, with 60 slabs weighing 32.89 kilograms and an additional 30 slabs weighing 33.44 kilograms, bringing the total seizure to over 66 kilograms.
The seized substances have been secured as exhibits and are currently undergoing forensic analysis to support ongoing investigations.
NACOC described the operation as a major breakthrough in Ghana’s fight against international drug trafficking and transnational organised crime.
The two suspects remain in custody and are expected to be processed in accordance with the law, as authorities intensify efforts to uncover and dismantle the broader criminal network behind the attempted smuggling operation.
