The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has revealed plans to withdraw the licences of 50 large-scale mining companies found to be in violation of sector regulations.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry’s Communications Directorate, the decision follows an extensive audit of large-scale mining operations conducted by a special committee established to assess compliance levels across the industry.
Acting on the instructions of the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the committee has released the initial batch of companies affected by the sanction process.
The violations cited include instances where companies are operating with mining leases but without the requisite environmental and water-use permits from the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) and the Water Resources Commission (WRC).
The Ministry noted that the move forms part of a wider, coordinated government effort to clamp down on regulatory misconduct and unlawful activities in the mining sector.
It added that the ongoing review seeks to ensure that all mining operations adhere strictly to legal procedures, environmental protection standards, and approved operational guidelines consistent with national laws and international best practices.
