World-renowned boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a road crash on Monday, 29 December 2005, at Makun along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Ogun State, Nigeria.
Eyewitnesses reported that Joshua’s vehicle, a Lexus Jeep (registration KRD 850 HN), collided with a stationary Sinotruk lorry around 11 a.m. under circumstances still under investigation. The boxer, 36, sustained minor injuries, while two other individuals tragically died at the scene.
According to Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the Lexus was reportedly exceeding the recommended speed limit, and the lorry had been safely parked on the road’s shoulder. An FRSC official in Abuja noted that the vehicle lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre.
Joshua was in Nigeria on a ten-day holiday following his high-profile boxing match against American YouTuber Jake Paul on 19 December, in which he secured a sixth-round knockout, leaving Paul with a broken jaw in two places.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident as questions remain about the circumstances surrounding the crash.
