The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested Stephen Kwakye for his alleged role in a conspiracy to rob a gold miner at Manso Abrense near Manso Nsiana in the Ashanti Region.
The suspect was picked up on December 30, 2025, following an intelligence-led operation.
Preliminary investigations by the police indicate that Kwakye allegedly played a central role in planning the robbery. He is said to have monitored the movements of the targeted miner and coordinated with accomplices to intercept the victim while in transit.
According to police sources, officers maintained surveillance after receiving intelligence on the planned operation. Kwakye was subsequently arrested when he reportedly appeared to collect what he believed was his share of the proceeds, under the impression that the robbery had been successfully executed.
During interrogation, the suspect is reported to have admitted to orchestrating the crime.
Kwakye is currently in police custody assisting with further investigations. Meanwhile, the Ashanti South Regional Police Command says efforts are underway to track down his accomplices to ensure they face the full rigours of the law.
