Minority members of Parliament are gunning to boycott the swearing-in of Ghana’s President-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo tomorrow in parliament.

Per the constitution, article 93(1)Parliament of less than 140 elected members do not form a quorum.

In view of this, if the 137 NDC elected MPs boycott the first sitting of the 8th Parliament a Speaker can’t be elected, hence Akufo-Addo’s swearing-in will be in limbo.

The NDC is demanding Techiman South Constituency seat to form the majority and select speaker for the house.

With the current happenings in Ghana’s political landscape, the Minority walkout of Parliament during the swearing-in ceremony is imminent.

The NDC and its flagbearer have accused the EC of conniving with the government to steal votes in both parliamentary and presidential elections.

The National Democratic Congress has Wednesday 30 December 2020 petitioned the Supreme Court to overturn the result of Ghana’s presidential election, saying incumbent Akufo-Addo’s win was illegal.
